The February edition of Chess Heights Niger was held on February 4, 2025, featuring nine skilled players. The event, played under a rapid 15+10 time control, took place at the Futminna Golf Club. The undefeated Theophilus Samson emerged as the champion, while Ayuba Godiya and Bamaiyi Sulonee Jerome finished in second and third place respectively. Justus Ilegieuno, serving as both the chief organizer and chief arbiter, ensured the smooth running of the tournament.

Early Rounds
In the opening round, Bamaiyi Sulonee, playing with the white pieces on board one, faced Theophilus Samson, who would go on to win the tournament. On board two, Basiru Nabil competed against Otunubi Abraham. Notably, Black won on the top two boards, while White secured victories on boards three and four. Bello Jeremiah clashed with Ove Fortune on board four, and Bamaiyi Gurale Jemimah dueled Obasi Daniel. Ayuba Godiya received a bye for this round.The second round brought a change in pace. Ayuba Godiya recorded the tournament’s first draw against Bamaiyi Sulonee Jerome on board four, while the remaining games on the top three boards were won by the White players. By the end of the first four rounds, only Theophilus Samson and Ayuba Godiya remained undefeated.
Subsequent Rounds
Theophilus Samson maintained his impressive form throughout the tournament. His only draw occurred in the final round against Ayuba Godiya, ensuring that Samson’s winning streak remained intact. The round-robin format, which had every participant play against each other, added significant intensity to the competition.
