The Indestructible Event Now Won by Emmanuel Usen

January 24, 2023

I now know we are indestructible. Lol. It is now time to make you indestructible.

Chess Heights Monthly of January 2023 clashed with the big and popular Friends of Chess. It affected us in terms of flavor but our event was yet a classy success. The nature of the flavor was that we had 21 players in attendance, only seven had Fide ID and only four had Fide rating. That was the nature of the flavor and we thank God for it.

The highest rated player at the event was the main contender for champion at the start, that was Oladotun Akinseye but he was obviously going to be challenged by the experienced Emmanuel Usen. Obiamaka Agbazue was claiming she had a chance at first but we expected surprise challengers to come from some of the young and largely unknown players that gathered for the event.

Round one saw Oladotun Akinseye beating Bankole Moses Olamilekan, while Obiamaka Agbazue with the black pieces defeated Chidiebere Oguejiofor, Emmanuel Usen was given a half point bye.

Round two saw higest rated player Oladotun Akinseye continue winning against Ikechukwu Ochu. Obiamaka however lost to Udeme Emah while Emmanuel Usen roared to victory against Paul Akhamie.

Oladotun continued his winning run in the third round against the tough Asaba Michael Abiola and it was only Clinton Akinrogunde that kept pace with the leader beating Taiwo Samuel. Emmanuel Usen continued playing catch up beating Udeme Emah. Obiamaka also beat Fasanmade Olufemi to stay in contention.

Akinrogunde became sole leader in round four by defeating tournament top seed Oladotun. Emmanuel Usen beat the ambitious Obiamaka to stay close to the leader.

Round five saw Emmanuel defeating Clinton to take over sole leadership of the event. Oladotun remained in contention by defeating Taiwo Samuel. Obiamaka lost again to confirm she was no longer a tournament contender though she led in ladies category.

The final round saw Emmanuel Usen win to clear all doubts as to who was champion.
